“The Chosen: Last Supper” raked in nearly $60 million during its worldwide theatrical release. According to reports, over the past three years, “The Chosen” has cumulatively grossed approximately $140 million globally in theaters.
ChurchLeaders spoke with Abe Bueno-Jallad, who plays Big James in “The Chosen,” and asked him how the series has impacted him personally.
“There’s something that has changed inside of me, and I don’t know if this would have happened any other way,” he shared. “The events, when you feel that they’re happening to you, it just brings you that much closer to what’s written in the book, and you understand the profound wisdom that’s in there.”
Bueno-Jallad emphasized, “Because it’s like it’s not just these highlights of a chapter that you hit. It’s that these people were literally living this much like we’re living it every day…this is happening still inside of me.”
Bueno-Jallad is currently filming Season 6 and described Season 5 as the series’ “tonal shift,” adding that Season 5 prepared him for Season 6.
“Season 6 ups the ante, so to speak,” he said. “And so I think what people are going to see in Season 5 is a show that they’ve known, we’re still delivering, but we really had to switch the tone because of where the story is going.”
“It’s not like we could have made [Jesus’] arrest or the Last Supper be the happy supper,” Bueno-Jallad continued. “It had to change.”
“So Season 5 actually is what I would believe is the big announcement and kind of dawns this new set of circumstances, which are, we’re no longer welcomed out in public,” he added. “We have to be in the shadows…we went from feeding 5,000 to being in hiding.”
“How did that happen? The disbelief, the incredulousness, the just, the sheer change is mind-boggling, and it starts with Season 5, and it gets propelled in Season 6,” Bueno-Jallad said.
The actor that plays Big James then requested that fans of the show pray for “fortitude, an open heart, and a strong back” as the cast and crew films Season 6—which will depict Jesus’ crucifixion.
