5. Origami
Our kids also made simple origami birds for the retirement home residents. Then on the wings, they wrote Matthew 10:31. “So don’t be afraid. You are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
6. Room Decorations
One week, kids decorated the walls for their small-group rooms. We provided art supplies, canvasses, and general instruction. Then they made art for their own rooms.
By doing this, children served guests by providing a colorful environment. An added bonus: They took more ownership of their space because they were invested in it.
7. Teacher Appreciation
We bought small glass jars, fruit-flavored Tootsie Rolls, and mailing labels. Kids filled the jars with candy. Then they wrote on the mailing labels, “Thanks for the ROLL you play in my life” and decorated them before taping labels to the jars. Search online for other fun teacher appreciation ideas.
8. Classmate Encouragement
We bought snack-sized Kit Kat bars, ribbon, and small paper cards. Children punched a hole in each card and in the corner of each candy wrapper.
On the cards, they wrote, “You are one cool Kat” and strung the Kit Kats and cards together. We told kids to give the candy and note to a classmate who seemed sad, lonely, or discouraged.
